Here we sit down with Matt to learn a little more about his journey as an entrepreneur.
> What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Matt: I first came across magic after being amazed and inspired by two-time America’s Talent winner Shin Lim! I started social media then, because I was stuck at home with my newfound love for magic. I then quickly became friends with @seandoesmagic on TikTok, (one of the biggest magic creators with 20mil+), and have been inspired ever since!
> How did you get started?
Matt: I had just learned a ton of magic tricks but was forced to stay at home during the lockdown. I had downloaded TikTok on my phone earlier and decided to give it a shot and started posting some magic related content over there. After two full months of posting with no results, I got my first viral video and started getting recognized and appreciated by big creators. After seeing how beneficial social media is, I never looked back!
> What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome this? what have you learned?
Matt: My biggest challenge in the beginning was not knowing how to make a viral video, and the hatred I got in the beginning. It took me two months for my first successful video to come out, and before that, I had received almost 200 views of a video with only negative comments. To overcome this, I just kept trying new ideas and realized that in the long run, negative opinions of others don’t matter. Looking back, I learned that if you believe in yourself, that’s all you need, even if no one else does.
Q. What’s the most memorable thing you’ve done since starting your business?
Matt: The most memorable thing I’ve done was working with the New York Mets! He sent me some team gear and I made a collaboration post with him on both Instagram and TikTok. Working with one of my childhood favorite teams was a surreal feeling, a real dream come true! I
Q. Which one book do you recommend, and why?
Matt: One book I would recommend is “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson. This book takes you through the journey of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time, and by getting a glimpse of his mindset I will really inspire you!
Q. What are your top 3 favorite online apps, tools or resources and what do you love about them?
Matt: My top 3 favorite apps are TikTok, YouTube and Capcat. Tiktok is where I got my start on social media, and YouTube is very rewarding with creator awards, and it has helped propel my career even further! CapCut is probably the easiest and most user friendly editing app I’ve ever seen and an absolute must have!
> What impression would you like to leave on the world in terms of heritage?
Matt: I want to inspire others to chase their dreams. I started filming video in my basement with a ladder as a tripod, and if I was able to scale it up, I’d like to inspire others to do the same. I want to adopt the ideology, that if you chase your dreams, the sky is the limit!
Q. In one sentence, what is the best advice you would give to someone embarking on an entrepreneurship journey?
Matt: You could work very hard for 250 days without seeing any results, and then on day 251, your wildest dreams came true and all your hard work paid off, never give up.
