Here’s What We Learned From Teen Vogue’s Dream Big Event

Walking through the steps to be accepted for your college diploma will be the first step toward the rest of your life. But figuring out what happens next after you accept your degree comes with many questions and self-doubt. Navigating your career post-graduation isn’t always the easiest thing to do, so Teen Vogue teamed up with Microsoft to present Teen Vogue’s Dream Big: Classroom to Career event.

In celebration of graduation season and everyone starting this next chapter, our Editor-in-Chief, Varsha Sharma and Executive Editor, Danielle Kwateng sat down with industry leaders to talk about STEM, fashion and beauty. Here are some of the things we learned from Dream Big Event that will help the recent graduates to level up their careers.

Wired for Change: Building a Career in STEM

Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Varsha Sharma sits down with Dr. Tarika Barrett, CEO of Girls Who Code, an international non-profit working to close the gender gap in technology, Tracy Chow, entrepreneur and Software engineers are what they are known for. Advocating for diversity and inclusion in technology, and Kim Macharia, executive director of the Space Prize Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on promoting STEM education and increasing the representation of women in aerospace careers. Whether you’re interested in entrepreneurship, or engineering, you’ll learn how important self-confidence is in the STEM space, especially as a minority.

“I could hold back rather than step up, but somehow I manage to keep imposter syndrome at bay and lean on my proven strategy of preparation,” says Dr. Tarika Barrett. “I will wholeheartedly admit that I don’t always know everything and of course there are a lot of people who know more than me but don’t test me when it comes to working hard.”
