Bonhams auction house is offering a set of five Nelson Mandela paintings as one NFT Collection. The craze for NFTs grows with each passing year, and almost anything is being sold at exorbitant prices in the form of NFTs. However, not everyone is happy with the new craze of NFTs. For example, the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) recently shelved its plan to convert endangered animals to NFTs after fierce backlash from environmentalists.
Despite some hiccups, NFTs remain popular, with many mainstream companies joining the bandwagon. Even YouTube is now keen to take advantage of the NFT boom and is said to be exploring how creators can use the technology on the platform to gain more engagement from fans. The prison has since become a tourist destination visited by US Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, other world leaders and celebrities. Other paintings in the collection include The Window, The Harbour, The Lighthouse and The Church. Nifty Gateway will be offering the entire collection on its platform on March 9 at a fixed price.
Describing the artifacts, the daughter of the former President of South Africa, Makaziwe Mandela, said that her father’s watercolors represent “Victory to the human soul.” According to him, turning the paintings into NFTAnd giving them to buyers will help her father’s message and art reach new audiences. “My dad was all about creating an accessible society. It’s a way to democratize his art,” he said. Each painting will sell for $699, while the entire collection will go for $3,495. The NFTs will be sold in six hours, and although there is no fixed number of times to sell, there is an upper limit of 10,000. A portion of the money raised from the NFT sale will help pay for a memorial garden in Qunu, where Mandela is buried.
